My humble apologies - I forgot the instructions. Again, let's hope
my original post finally makes it past the moderator ;-)
Get a CF card, and put hpcboot.exe and the linux image (j820) onto it.
Put the CF card into your jornada - make sure there's nothing in
the Jornada's memory you'll need later, because this will blow
everything away - and doubleclick on hpcboot.exe. Tell hpcboot
to load the "j820" file. There's a host of other options there, too,
most of them don't matter too much.
Then press "BOOT" and you should get the linux prompt in a few
seconds.
The virtual terminal feature works also, and the special Jornada
buttons at the top of the keyboard act as if they were FN buttons,
so you can use Alt-FN combinations to switch between terminals.
To get back to WinCE, type "reboot" or press the reset button. The
Poweroff button doesn't work! If you leave your Jornada alone for
a long time, it will turn off the screen but not the CPU. Press
a button and the screen backlight will come back.
Yes, power management is something I'd like to fix quickly ;-)
