Hi, everyone!

I took the risk - and it works. :-)
This is how I did it:
* Make sure that you have a reflashable replacement ROM in your
Jornada. All these things do not work with MS-Windows-CE
and HPCboot. (Well ... almost all. See below if you are using
HPCboot.)
* Download the binaries provided by Kye Connect:
http://www.pin9.de/bootldr-2.19.28-j720.tgz
http://www.pin9.de/kernel720.tgz
* Make sure that hardware flow control is switched off in your
terminal program.
(Otherwise you can read messages from the Jornada, but not write
- and not get a "boot>" prompt.)
* Make sure that xmodem works.
(I realized that it did not work on my system only *after* having
typed "load bootldr". So I invoked "apt-get install lrzsz" while
my Jornada was waiting for the bootloader ... ==8-)
* Follow the instructions in the email

to install bootldr-2.19.28.bin on the Jornada.
*** This is the most dangerous step! ***
* Reboot and check whether your Jornada has become a brick.
(After having typed "boot" at the "boot>" prompt, my Jornada
stopped booting at "Booting Linux image" and tried hard to
convince me that it was a brick - which made me somewhat
nervous ... ==8-)

to install the new kernel kernel720.tgz.
* Reboot.
Press the suspend key.
Press it again.
Be happy.
I am observing two goodies:
- Power management: I can suspend and resume.
The clock runs while the Jornada is suspended.
- PCMCIA is much more reliable.
While there is no hope to get the first one using HPCboot, the
second one is good news for everyone.
In order to profit from this new development when using HPCboot, all
that has to be done is to compile and use a new kernel. This is some
work because someone must compile a new kernel with a CIBD initrd -

OTOH you can do experiments with is without any risk to brick your
Jornada.
I can imagine that one can save some battery power by switching off
the screen even with HPCboot. This would not be a fully-featured
power management, but at least some approximation.
Happy hacking,
Peter
