Dear Jornada 820 users,
I am trying to raise money so as to fund a kernel hacker to complete
the port of Linux to the HP Jornada 820 -- one of the best PDAs ever made,
with a full VGA screen, a big comfortable keyboard, and 10 hours of autonomy.
I've found a reputable kernel hacker willing to work at cost for two months
for $5000, though a preliminary study to more thoroughly evaluate the amount
of time (and thus money) required will cost some $500, plus a machine
plus accessories to ship there ASAP, that may cost another $500.
Thus, with $6000, the project will be funded.
There seems to be twenty-odd reported Linux or BSD users
who own a 820. If each of us could shell out $300 --
half the price of a C700, then we would have enough to fund the project.
If each of us can shell out $150, and we are able to find as many
other users to contribute as much, the project will be funded, too.
Or if we can convince 30 people to contribute $100 each to the fund,
and buy a second-hand 820 (a lot of them are on eBay, where they typically
sell between $180 and $260, with a $350 "Buy It Now!" price),
then so is the project funded.
So, what about getting one of these sweet things,
and contributing to the fund?
It could really be your dream Linux PDA!
