Personally I have given up on a real suspend/resume since this
seems to require a replacement ROM which is out of reach for
normal human beings.

But:

Is there any chance just to switch off (and back on) the LCD
backlight? This would certainly extend the battery lifetime to
a period which makes the Jornada interesting for real-life use.

There is evidence that the interrupt problems came with the change
from hh10 to hh18, so a backport of the PM stuff to hh10 might lead
to the desired results.
