[jornada] Linux on 568

I have been trying to follow the progress of the 568/linux development but I
think I'm losing track a little.

If I look at Familiar they are at V0.6-rc but they are not yet ready for 568
although this is expected (??). John has done some work with a "kernel" which I
have downloaded and compiled (I think successfully but being a wee timorous
beastie I haven't tried it out for fear of "bricking" my 568!). But that's as
far as I am at present so I have a few questions:

My questions are many and varied....
- What exactly do I need to get a working linux Jornada 568? If I use the kernel
that I have compiled what else will I need? Do I need Familiar as well?
- The BootBlaster that John made a few changes to (I have compiled this in
VCembedded and it seem like it works I have uploaded it to my 568 and run it up
copying the bootldr) does this have anything to do with booting the PDA once I
have installed the "New" linux'd bootldr through it?
- Are there any power management issues still lurking? I have seen that the 720
will not turn back on except by resetting the PDA and rebooting via wince. Is
this because the 720 is not flash ROM and the work in progress is kind of a work
around for those not lucky enough to get a new ROM chip?
- If I "generally" follow the IPAQ installation FAQ will this completely erase
PocketPC or is it just masking it? ie when I power off and on again will wince
come back to life?
- When I turn the 568 off with the power button will I be able to turn it back
on with a simple press of the same button or will I have to do some elaborate
minicomming from my PC?
- When / If I get Familiar running on my 568 will OPIE just slot into place
(following the ipkg FAQ of course) or does this need tweeking for the 568 too?
- How close is Familiar from releaseing v0.6 with 568 support? Should I just sit
back and wait? ;-)
Finally
- I only have USB connection with my 568 does anyone have the pinouts for the
connector (button, not CF) so that I can put a serial cable together?

All these questions I have are not in anyway trying to slur the development work
that you are all doing!! I am desparate to move my 568 into the linux age I hate
not being able to use my PDA dynamically, ie ppp is crippled M$ style in
pocketpc and will only communicate with windoze, I am just being (perhaps)
over-cautious because I do rely on the PIM facilities quite a lot, Oh and I
don't want to retire it to the trash can if I am trying to do things a little
too soon and things go wrong :-(

One final question..... What exactly can I do with jflash? Is this just for
moving bootldr onto the 568 or is there more?

Kindest regards and keep the good work up
