I hope you removed console=.. it redirects output to serial console, so
screen is blank. I forgot to mention that I use this kernel with familiar
0.8.2 image and I do not know if it works with anything else.

I reported some issues with linexec here in conference. If I remember
correctly when booting 2.6 kernel linexec for some unknown reason cuts the
last character on the line with kernel parameters or something like that.
Check the conference. I do not know if this is fixed or not.
