How can wpa be configured for a wireless card? I'm using 720degrees also.

For most distributions (i've not used 720 degrees instead I have
Familiar Linux but I suspect this is the same) just inserting the
wireless card should bring it up, connect to the nearest access point
and automatically get an IP adress, no special configuration needed.

Again can't speak for 720degrees specifically but this should be done
automatically by the distro, Familar automatically launches itself into
X Windows at boot. Some distributions require you to run a command
called startx. There shouldn't be much setup to do, if there is this
will done via editing the X Windows config files in /etc/X11.

GPE/Matchbox which are included in Familiar is a really nice (similar to
GNOME on a desktop PC) GUI that runs on X Windows have a look at
http://gpe.handhelds.org/ for some screenshots. Other window managers
that might be quite good include Ion2, Fluxbox, Blackbox, IceWM and FVWM.
