I had done this about a year ago following a walkthough that I can't find
anymore. So I did going on the familiar 8.2 instruction, but didn't remember
that there was a jornada image for 8.2. I was going to work through the root
images until I found one that worked (I did find a v8.2 for jornada).

Yes I have, and it appears to ignore the keys on the device and from the
serial terminal.
