Hi,
after installing Debian/Sarge on my Jornada 720 (thanks Rafael for the
nice howto!), I tried to get a more modern kernel running on the
machine.
I succeded with linux-2.4.27 patched with the vrs and pxa pacthes and
the addition of some j720-pieces from the 2.4.19-rmk6-pxa1-hh3-j720-3
kernel version on Rafaels page.
The machine is running with all features I tested:
- Console on display / Xfbdev
- Keyboard
- Touchscreen
- Sound
- Compactflash
- PCMCIA ne2k, orinoco, serial cards
- Switching display off with power-button
- j720_control
- IPv6 ;-)
The only problem which I encountered is, that sometimes the keyboard and
touchscreen won't work after boot. But I also had exactly this behaviour
with 2.4.19, so it's not introduced with the updated kernel.
I have updated Rafaels initrd to contain the additional modules for
2.4.27.
On my website is now a patch against vanilla 2.4.27, a built kernel, a
modules-archive, the initrd and the .config:
http://wwwcip.informatik.uni-erlangen.de/~simigern/jornada-7xx/linux-2.4.27-vrs1-pxa1-j720/
(The toolchain used to compile the kernel is the one found on Rafaels
page)
I would be very interested to hear if this works for anybody else ;-)
Regards,
Michael
