I know the problem with the bright screen with hpcboot, too. Although I did not
test 2.4 kernels with other bootloaders I guess this problem is not loader
specific but caused by the distorsion of some memory values wince relies on. I
should happen with other bootloader too. _Maybe_ it could be possible to store
critical memory regions before booting linux and restoring them before reset but
this does not sound archievable to me ;)
If I have more time and a linux machine available here at work I will test
booting linux without flashboard and debug via serial console.. but that may
take time, sorry.
