Hi all,
With the help of the list I've managed to install Familiar
Linux v0.8.2-snapshot-20050325 on a Jornada56x. I didn't have the time to
play with it much over the week but I've finally got around to it today.
I know that v .8.2 is experimental but I wanted to make some remarks
(should I? Is this the correct place?)
I've tried to use some wireless cards with both the expantion sleeve provided
by HP (PC card adapter with the large battery and an MMC card port)
and a cheap (wire-only) CF to PCMCIA with no luck. The first simply does
not work while the second, when plugged, freezes the system. The first
adapter is rather bulky so I can't have it on the serial cradle and see what's
going on.
The battery indication is wrong. Right now I have it on AC charge and when
I click on the indicator next to the language setting it says: External
power disconnected.
I've been trying to install some packages so since the wireless cards are not
working, I tried using the serial connection. I've found some quick n' dirty
instructions to do it ( http://www.daantje.nl/blog/index.php?buttonID=26 )
but I'm missing the ppp_async module! (uname -a says: Linux jornada56x
2.6.11-hh0 #1 Sat Mar 26 00:03:07 CET 2005 armv4l unknown )
The touchscreen is pretty "sloppy" i.e. even after lots of
calibrations I can't seem
to tap on the "backspace" on the multikey and I have to switch to the
pickboard to
delete the last character.
When the main battery is dead, the clock goes back to 1976 (the backup battery
is brand new)
I wasn't able to do much with the sound because I wasn't able to
install packages
but I think the IrDA is not working at all (If I click on the related icon next
to the clipboard, it doesn't get "ticked")
Is there a newer version of Opie to try or should I wait for the
official release?
I could do much more if i had that ppp_async module (unless there is another
way to connect my jornada to the Internet - I have tthe USB cradle as well)
Sorry for the long e-mail,
Cheers,
