Hi,
I have finished my initial kernel 2.6 port for the Jornada 720.
new features:
- the framebuffer can now display text of a framebuffer console correctly
- the keyboard does not require any special keymap anymore
- battery information can be read using /proc/apm so every user environment
will know the battery state immediately
- the kernel devfs will be replaced by udev which will hopefully resolve some
problems with pcmcia cards
- the rest of the hardware will work fine (except irda and modem, I have not
tried usb networking yet, but it should work out of the box(I need to get
this docking station wired up)), contrast/brightness/lcd status can be
controlled using the kernel 2.6 sysfs. Opie and GPE already support this
feature.
remaining issues:
- fir irda does not work. To get it going I would need the register which
enables power to the irda port and which register changes from fir to sir
mode.
- suspend/resume does not work. Suspending fails completely very often and
when it does work, resuming only creates some random junk characters on a
rs232 console and the device does not come back up.
I will add a jornada 720 configuration to OpenEmbedded soon so new images for
devices with flash boards can easily be built.
As soon as my OE image is built I will put it onto my site at
http://handhelds.org/~chicken/oe
kind regards,
Alex Lange
