the cibd was a quick patch to get a root filesystem to boot from (i'm
actually surprised that anyone is using it). there is a much better
method mentioned in a few documents that just links the initrd into the
kernel - but i couldn't find much documentation for it.

i can make cibd accept compressed images if you want (but you shouldn't
need this - 2M is a lot of space).
i can work on a improved cibd patch if enough people are interested.
