I haven't tried on the 720, but I'm currently booting Linux from WinCE
on the 820 using hpcboot plus blob.

Of course, Linux crashes early on (somewhere after head-armv.S),
but at least I'm there.

To get back into WinCE, just remove any power source,
and then it reinitializes and asks you questions, etc.
You can then restore your previous settings from backup.
