Also, one reason that it may not be killed is that it is quiet
popular with professional business people and that the technology
is moving forward as rapidly as ever and thus making a small
portable computer with low power consumption and instant on/off
a winning and increasingly popular sales item and so more likely
to take off as time goes on, not less likely.
Also, I notice all those portable keyboards for the PPC folks -
hey, if you have to lug around such a thing, why not get one
built in that does not add much to the space taken up in the
first place.
