I succeeded to install GNU/Linux (familiar 0.5.2) on a ROM based
Jornada 710 (almost the same as the 720) with a 256 MB CF card.
Framebuffer-based X runs, console doesn't. Some programs do not run
yet (I miss vim!), but as I can cross-compile kernels and all kind
of software I dare to say that all real programs are resolved ...

... but one: There is no power management yet. I cannot even switch
off the backlight. Without a possibility to save some battery power,
my Jornada is still useless. :-(

(As you probably guessed, using a non-free operating system is not
an option for me. Sad enough that it is still needed for booting and
that I had to pay for it.)

If you are interested in my setup, I can upload my ready-to-use
installation to some web server.

Does it supply power management? If so, I'd be highly interested.

As both NetBSD and Linux are free Unix-like OS kernels, it should be
possible to set up NetBSD in a way that it looks very similar to a
GNU/Linux system.

Apart from power management, my setup works, and I can share it with you.

Indeed. I paid 700 EUR for my 710. Maybe I should have waited for
longer ... ;-)
