i don't know what causes this - sometimes i can boot a kernel, sometimes i
can't - resetting the device helps sometimes (although i haven't tried
booting it recently). console=2 is from hpcboot. i found that putting the
kernel in \My Documents\ helps (it will boot from \My Documents\ , while
it won't boot from \ - it's interesting that larger kernels don't seem to
boot even from \My Documents\)

that is because this kernel is compiled with framebuffer support. what is
strange is that the framebuffer works with this kernel, while it doesn't
work with mine (that's why my kernel doesn't have framebuffer support) -
there are no differences in the sources that Mike Eddington is using and
the sources that i'm using.

sorry, no guru here, but i will post something when i get to play with the
jornada some more.

i have. i don't know about the jornada, but i remember reading that using
a wrong refresh rate on certain laptops can damage the screen.
