[jornada] Newbie with a screen question.

OK. I've got it to boot using the kernel from www.acid.ch.pw.edu.pl.
However, when it's booting the 720 shows an orange horizontal line rather
than the penguin.
This would not be a problem if it weren't for the fact that when i boot CE
again then line can still be seen as a light stripe across the screen.
I also get alternating light and dark vertical stripes when i boot CE back.
They slowly fade, particularly when I goto mains power.
I presume this is due to the different screen drivers the two systems use.
Will prolonged use damage my screen?
Has anyone else had this problem?
