[jornada] HPCBOOT & Linux

Hello fellow Jornadians,

I have been able to boot the Linux kernel I found at this address:

http://www.phed.org/~meddington/jornada720.html
(Compiled kernel 2.4.17-rmk5-hh9)

via the serial port with the lastest version of HPCBOOT from here:

http://cvsweb.netbsd.org/bsdweb.cgi/syssrc/sys/arch/hpc/stand/binary/ARM/hpcboot.exe.uu
(Revision 1.18.8.3)

(The Linux Penguin does show up on the Jornada screen along with a flashing
cursor but it apparently does nothing)

I also made 2 partitions on my 256MB CF card (FAT & EXT2) and dropped the
Familiar distro on the EXT2 partition and the kernel, HPCBOOT to the FAT
partition. I have not been able to boot to the EXT2 partition as I'm not
sure where to put the 'root=/dev/hda2'. There is a section on the options
tab in HPCBOOT that says kernel extras (or something like that).

I have also success fully booted a 32MB DD image of NetBSD that I got from
here:

http://mail-index.netbsd.org/port-hpcarm/2001/07/28/0000.html

It has a similar configuration as the partitions on my CF card (FAT & BSD
with HPCBOOT, NetBSD ARM kernel on FAT, etc...) and it boots to the BSD
partition ON THE JORNADA, (not through the serial although that's where the
whole kernel bootup messages are displayed, not on the Jornada screen) and
supposedly can use most generic PCMCIA NICs (which makes it very very useful
except I don't have one yet :(

I have a couple of questions:

1. I understand that Linux sees the CF card as an ATA device thus it would
be seen as /dev/hda and a CF in a PCMCIA adapter would be /dev/hdb. Is this
correct?
2. Does anybody have (or know where to get) any sort of documentation for
HPCBOOT? I have gone all over NetBSD.org and found nothing.
3. Also, where can I find a newest precompiled version of the kernel for the
Jornada 720 like the one I already have?
4. If there is something I'm missing to boot to the EXT2 partition, like the
NetBSD DD image was able to, (which I probably am), could you please help me
out?

Thanks in advance!!!!
