I recall creating silly apps on hp200lx with Borland C.

Once the touchscreen is fixed, I think most people will find it a lot easier
to use. However, it is still very usable right now :) I'm running
familiar-unstable and python works just fine. Rxvt comes up by virtue of the
/etc/init.d/x script so even with the unusable touchscreen, it works well
for command-line shell activities (bash & vi installed). Throw gcc on a
flashcard or udrive and you could quite easily code with it as is (though
with python and pygtk, I have all I need right now).
Yes no power mgmt but leave the disc-battery out and remove the main
lith-ion when done. With
jffs2 everything saves/comes back up nicely.

If/when you are interested in having your unit converted, just e-mail a
request to jca@alum.mit.edu. HP is doing the conversions themselves at this
point (for those who don't feel comfortable with #6 torx wrenches, like me
;)
There is no cost for this (at this time).

Hope this helps,
