Hmmm...

The colors are statically sharp, but there is a subtle effect that
appears when there is relative motion between my eyes and the
display. I'll try to describe it again with a bit of painstaking
detail:

I have two brand new 3670 iPAQs here.

The first iPAQ is running Familiar 0.5 upgraded to the latest bits
from lorien, (2.4.7-rmk3-np1-devfs v. hh9). I've got ion running with
its default colors and an rxvt.

On the second iPAQ, I've got WindowsCE running the image viewer with a
screendump of exactly what is on the Linux iPAQ, (can't seem to get
rid of the toolbar but otherwise they would look identical).

I've tried to match the brightness of the frontlight on both
machines. (SuperBright on WindowsCE and 64 on Linux seems pretty
close).

If I look directly at both iPAQs they appear remarkably similar. But,
if I move the Linux iPAQ slightly, or look at it while turning my
head a bit, I notice extremely faint lines running along the
display. The lines are vertical when in portrait mode, (and horizontal
when in landscape). If I shake the the iPAQ back and forth at just the
right speed, I can get the lines to appear static, sort of a
light-gray zebra effect across the ion toolbar. The lines seem to be
most apparent in the default blue color of the ion titlebar, and are
not at all visible on solid white or solid black

I can not achieve any similar effect on the WindowsCE machine,
regardless of motion.

I've got fluorescent lights in my office here, but I was able to
reproduce the effect at home last night with incandescent lighting.

Can anyone else see this as well? It's subtle, but it is somewhat
annoying, (to me anyway).

PS. In order to establish my sanity, I just handed the two iPAQs to an
unsuspecting coworker. He didn't notice any difference on his own, (so
the effect must not be that bad). But he definitely could see it when
I told him what to look for.
