You might want to try the latest 2.4.7 kernel (-hh9)
ftp://lothlorien.handhelds.org/pub/linux/feeds/2.4.7/
The latest kernel always passes all button pushes to the OS, so you
shouldn't need to use the /proc/sys/ts/suspend_button_mode.
