Is there any evidence that this was actually posted by anyone
empowered to speak for the iPAQ engineering team?

Because surely this makes no sense. HP has *just now* introduced a
machine equivalent to the Compaq iPAQ. They're a year and a half
behind Compaq. So you'd expect that it would be the HP team that
would get the boot, not the Compaq team.
