[iPAQ] release strategy - call for demos for ALS and the wearables conference...

Sometime soon, V.16 will be "released" and become the stable release:
our thanks to all who have been testing in advance: it will be the best
yet, me thinks...

We plan another release, v.17, probably for middle to end of next week.
It will probably be based on 2.4.0-test9, which seems to be fixing lots
of problems introduced in -test8 that we've been struggling with in V.16.
We don't forsee updating the kernel again until after ALS and the wearables
conference in Atlanta. We'll likely spin a few user partitions and/or
fix bugs in the base v.17 after v.17 is out. The v.17 release will likely
have the screen rotated by default: I dunno if I'll have the rotation
extension done by then to allow for dynamic reconfiguration or not.

We'll spend the remaining time trying to integrate whatever nice goodies
people have, both ours and others, for demoing. We're going to presume
for the purposes of the ALS demo that we have 32meg iPAQ's (I don't think
we have time to do two /usr/local setups, and we need better packaging
technology).

Looking at all this, I think it likely that apps we don't have in hand
by around the end of next week probably won't make it for ALS, by the
time everything gets all tested and shaken down. This isn't to say that
some late goodie that can go in easily won't happen, just that we have
experience in kitting and it does take time.... Please let me/the list
know if you have a particular item you think would be good to demo at
these conferences....
