Actually,

I tried this on my iPAQ and got the same messages posted to the
list. I then pulled down the lxdoom source, compiled it under Linux
i386 and it worked out of the box with the same wad file. :(

Perhaps someone would like to look closely at the wad parsing code
with an eye out for unportable code?

PS. Here's the output from lxdoom on the i386 for comparison with the
iPAQ results, (the iPAQ errors begin just after R_InitData: prints out):
