I believe the latest Familiar unstable bits have the RandR extension.
Both ion and blackbox know how to deal with the screen changes.
(Carl did ion and I did Blackbox).
To switch from Portrait to landscape, you execute the
command "xrandr -o left". To return to portrait, you execute
the command "xrandr -o normal".
You can also go upside down: "xrandr -o inverted", and, for lefties,
"xrandr -o right".
If you have a backPAQ (which has an accelerometer), you just rotate
the screen, and it "does the right thing", if you've installed the
"xaccel" daemon. Come to Usenix for a demo!
I leave it as an exercise to the reader to generate the right menu
entries. :-).
