Trivia:

xterm predates X itself: it was first written by a co-op of mine, starting
about a month before X became X. It was written, originally, with the
intention of a single xterm process supporting multiple VS100 displays
hooked up to VAX 11/750's.

I then maintained it for a long while, and it got hacked on by N people,
and remerged N times.

So I can well believe it can/should be better...

The one part of xterm that is "good stuff" is the ansii escape parser:
I trust that rxvt stole that...
