a) Carl Worth, you're my new hero. Thanks for that PPP howto.
b) Now, I've found that when I try to use ftp I get the 'ftp: connect:
Connection refused' message, and similar for telnet. Just a guess, but
is this because the iPaq does not have an ftp or telnet server running
by default? Anybody know?
c) Also, prior to following the howto, I was trying to port an app that
spawns pppd. Although it started it ok, when I tried to connect from the
i386 I saw a transcript like this (I'm not even sure which layer was
writing this info, because when I follow the howto I don't get this kind
of verbose stuff. However, if memory serves, LCP is part of the PPP
stuff, yes?):
sent [LCP ConfReq id=0xa <asyncmap 0x0> <magic 0x4e076f5c> <pcomp>
<accomp>]
rcvd [LCP ConfReq id=0xa <asyncmap 0x0> <magic 0x4e076f5c> <pcomp>
<accomp>]
sent [LCP ConfNak id=0xa <magic 0x8a610267>]
rcvd [LCP ConfNak id=0xa <magic 0x8a610267>]
Serial line is looped back.
sent [LCP TermReq id=0xb "Loopback detected"]
rcvd [LCP TermReq id=0xb "Loopback detected"]
sent [LCP TermAck id=0xb]
rcvd [LCP TermAck id=0xb]
I think that because the iPaq was sending requests with the same exact
magic numbers as the i386, the i386 thinks it's a loopback. Is this
because the iPaq was not setup with it's own IP, so somehow the data was
going through a loopback mechanism on the iPaq? Obviously I'm pretty new
to all this and am trying to learn as much as I can.
Thanks,
