Ellen,

Regarding PPP, I played with it about a month before. It was quite tough
getting it to work. I faced the same problems as what you mention here.

Turning debug on should list out the messages. Mostly what happens is, the
desktop will keep sending messages without a response from the ipaq. If you are
atleast successful in the com port and initial setup, you should see startup
messages when the ipaq is switched on - it should appear on your ppp desktop
terminal. Sometimes it does not catch the 'ogin' word (Actually what happens is
it is looking for the work 'login'). So if it does catch it, you are
successful.

I got till that point of getting the login root. But after that it just times
out and quites on me. I tried several times but could not succeed.

The iPaq need not have an ip address set to a specific one unless you are using
PCMCIA ethernet or IP masquerading. The above fake one should work fine. In any
case, if you want to change IP address, use :
ifconfig eth0 ....

However, I have not been fully successful.

Sri.
