I got the following from Dataanywhere today regarding my CyPaq order. Summary:
He claims the CyPaq and the new Compaq dual PCMCIA device are the same:
iPaq News. March 27, 2001
You are receiving this message because you have a CyPaq on order with us.
We have been informed that the CyPaq will not be available for at least 2 or
3 more weeks. The reason for the delay resides in the fact that the CyPaq
requires a ROM upgrade from Compaq, and that has not been released yet.
The original ROM from the iPaq is only able to recognize one PC Card slot,
thus making it necessary to be upgraded to a new version. We have been told
that the ROM will be available on or before April 15.
We know that this is a major inconvenience for all our customers, but we are
working very close to Cynet in order to be able to ship the CyPaqs as soon
as they are released.
We have received a lot of questions regarding the new Compaq dual-slot PC
expansion pack and how it compares with the CyPaq. Well, both units are THE
SAME thing, built at the same plant and with the same components. The only
difference is branding. The first batches will be sold under the CyPaq
brand and after that, they will also be sold under Compaq's brand.
Again, thank you for your patience and understanding.
