[iPAQ] Powering off the ipaq and retaining the settings

What are the options to power off the ipaq running familiar 3.0 and still
retain the settings? I let mine sit last night after the screen went
blank. I came to find out this morning that it has no power. So Is there
a way to turn it off and on and keep the settings and not have to charge
it all of the time?
