[iPAQ] button sleeve

Howdy all,

To the Compaq guys:
Is the gaming sleeve a real thing? if so, what's the timeframe for it?
What are the basic specs? Also, will we ever be able to buy just the
plain sleeve for the iPAQ? And/or a plain sleeve with the I/O connecter
in it? And/or has/is there been any thought to how a 3d party who wants
to develop a sleeve might go through compaq to do it in order to not
have to deal with all the injection molding crap? (I don't generally do
biz related stuff, so I don't really know what I'm talking about here).

If you could find out some info and post it (or forward to the right
people), it would be appreciated.

To everyone:
If this gaming sleeve is not coming, or if it's not coming soon, I might
be able to do something about it. Me and a buddy have been looking for
a simple project to get started on ... He's hardware, I'm software,
between us, we could probably wire up a 3 or 4 button thing that could
be (initially) glued/stuck onto the plain sleeve and interface to the
gpio pins and provide the linux/ce driver for it. It's possible that
the plain sleeve could be hacked (literally) so that these buttons would
fit inside it too (though we wouldn't provide that service until plain
sleeves were available for sale on the market). Once some type of plain
sleeve were available, we could then sell a ready-made version ...

I think it would be really good for games, but also for other apps as
well.

Is anyone interested in this? Would you pay for it (enough to cover
parts, time and a little extra incentive)?

Once we got it done, I think we might be able to open source the
hardware involved, so the people (say from handhelds.org) who were
inclined and had parts available could build it themselves, and
definately the linux source too. We'd want to get developers (like game
developers) doing games that would use it, so we could sell it to
non-developers.

Give me some feedback if you have it ...
