Thanks, those pages seems really up-to-date, and it's good to be sure they
are the authoritative ones.

My iPaq is a second-hand 3870, so it should be supported (that was a
prerequisite). I do not think I intend to use a distribution when the system
will be fully set up, but I will use the Familiar installation base as a
starting point. I will try to write a full report when all is done.
