I used Debian and don't have any problems. When I plug in the USB cable, it
loads the ipaq driver and away I go. I've also install RAKI -- which will
help in the GUI.

Which kernel are you using? If it's 2.6.x, then you may need to use a patched
ipaq kernel which is what I needed to do. I couldn't get it to connect until
I did so. But if you can't get USB working at all, then maybe check you are
starting hotplug (try /etc/init.d/hotplug start).
