As others note it does take a very long on the first boot. The other thing is
that it always seems to stop part way through the boot sequence if it's
connected to the serial line. Try just rebooting it not plugged into
anything.
If you really need a pda, you may find Familiar a bit limiting on the 5550 at
the moment. Power management is awful (you probably need to charge it
everyday - and the reported charge is unreliable), bluetooth doesn't work
properly either, been struggling with irda as well and the headphone socket
doesn't work yet. On the plus side compared to my 3970, mmc/sd works and you
have wireless (though that REALLY eats the battery).
