[iPAQ] free-space in root partition disappearing with time

Hi there!

when i let my ipaq 3850 run for several days,
the root partition is filling itself up until no space is
available anymore. Sporadically up to 12 megs of
space are freed again.
Does anyone have an idea what could be the reason
for this behavior or how it can be solved?

I'm using the familiar 0.7.2 distribution with gpe as the window
manager. I have also put some programs onto a mmc card and
linked it to their original destination in /usr/lib ...
Nothing special else.
