Subject: [iPAQ] Help me, another dead iPaq!
Hi, Dear All,
I am not a lucky one on installing the v.17 linux on my recently got iPaq.
:-( What should I do? Anybody can help me, please....
I follow the instructions on handhelds.org carefully. I successfully backed
up my WinCE, and got throught the installation procedure step by step till
step (13), and I don't know exactly what is reboot my iPaq after load file
bootldr-0000-2.9.5
<ftp://ftp.handhelds.org/pub/linux/compaq/ipaq/v0.17/bootldr-0000-2.9.5> ,
so I just tried to power cycle it, I click the power butter to turn it off
and again to switch it on. Actually I can not judge if it is really power on
or not at this stage, since there is no light showing. I can connect it with
Hyperterminal without any problem. So I began the step 16, without seeing
the "Corrupt kernel image". I think probably I should run a "boot" at the
prompt. Anyway, at that time I just run the "load kernel" without further
thinking. The unlucky thing happened, during the xmodem download process,
the progress dialog suddenly disappeared, and then when I tried to connect
it with hyperterminal again, there is nothing shown up, I even don't know if
it is power on or off. I guess it might be the hyperterminal problem, if I
knew this earlier, I would do all of this in Linux instead of Win2000.
"The fact is my iPaq dead", and I can not wake it up. I have been eagerly
waiting it for half a year, it finally arrived, but dead so quick. :-( I am
very sad. Could anybody in Compaq Research Center help me? Or I need to
contact with Compaq for a replacement? Which one is better? I feel it is
really a scary process for me to go through the installation again, but I am
sure I will try another time if I can get another working one. :)
Thanks!
-Ling
