Hello,
A few weeks ago I purchased a used iPaq 3870.
As best I can tell it was in fine condition. I installed bootopie (fam 0.7.2)
off a CF card using the dual PCMCIA sleeve (is is a wonderfully fast & easy
way of doing an instll, BTW).
Today - after using Linuxx for about a week - I am unable to turn the iPaq on
anymore. I am almost 100% sure the battery could not have been more than half
drained, and I have since recharged it with both the power adapter & the Dual
Sleeve, nothing helps.
What's odd is the iPaq seems to be alibe somehow: the power light does the
right thing (blinks when charging, shines steady to indicate it's full) and
also when I insert the iPaq into the Dual_PCMCIA sleeve and put a NIC in the
sleeve, the Link & activity lights shine & blink on the NIC card indicating
that the OS is responding to the card insertion (unfortunately I don't know
if sshd is running, can't remember the ipaddress of the iPaq & can't find it
with nmap -sP).
It's almost like the iPaq is fine, just the LCD won't turn on.
I have tried resetting with the reset button on the bottom of the iPaq & still
get no response (which I find terribly disturbing). Apparently there is no
battery switch liie the 36xx used to have (please correct me if I'm wrong,
but I don't see it).
Is there any other way to reset this thing? If not, what do I with it?
Has anyone else had this problem with the 3870?
Thanks,
JW
