Great articles about restoration of a Ipaq, however I'm left with some questions.
1) my md5sum's and bytecounts of the rom-files stay different. I'm using Windows with HexEdit 2.1 and the rom-file SP20010, which results in editing NK_Mac18700WWE.nbf.
As reference I use http://www.handhelds.org/z/wiki/Restoring%20Windows%20CE%20from%20the%20Compaq%20iPAQ%20Update, where can be found how to restore a rom without own backup, but using a update from Compaq.
What I do is: open hexedit, use the .nbf file, remove (delete) the first 32 bytes, than go to address C00000 and select everything thereafter, and use 'export as hex-text"file, using the name described. (could also use Motorola hex-file). Than the byte-count ánd md5sum is different from what is described.
Also from 40000 to BFFFF the file does not match up.
How do I get it right ?
2) Bootblaster. Could I also just install it on the Ipaq, run it with the .bin-file on it and than use the normal Ipaq-Softpack RUU-file ?
3) bootblaster, I did get a connection with the Ipaq using Hyperterminal, but spacebar to get a "boot>"prompt did not work before I used bootblaster. Should I use bootblaster first to get this ?
4) Everywhere DD is used. That seems to be Linux. Could I get the same program under Windows, or can I use Hexedit as the same. On the page http://www.handhelds.org/z/wiki/Restoring%20Windows%20CE%20from%20the%20Compaq%20iPAQ%20Update there is a big description for using DD, but how do I get the same files from the .nbf file as with DD ? Using adresses 4000, 40000, 80000 and C00000 did not produce the correct md5sums.
Appreciating any help.
