Yes, it is pretty much useless. The main difference between SD and MMC memory
cards is the initialization sequence which they do not detail in the
simplified specification.

Does anyone know where there are specs on the SD Card? www.sdcard.org
doesn't seem to have make them available to non-members. The flash
chips contains blocks of 512-bytes and associated with each block is a
further 16-bytes of bookkeeping data. I'm specifically wondering if
this metadata in each flash sector is accessible from outside the card.
