Thanks. Unfortunately it stops short of defining the commands (and even
seems to purposely obscure the command names when comparing them with MMC
commands). Looks like you have to be a member to find out how it works. I
thought we'd come out of such dark-ages.

Does anyone know where there are specs on the SD Card? www.sdcard.org
doesn't seem to have make them available to non-members. The flash
chips contains blocks of 512-bytes and associated with each block is a
further 16-bytes of bookkeeping data. I'm specifically wondering if
this metadata in each flash sector is accessible from outside the card.
