[iPAQ] status of Familiar audio?

Hi,

I know there was a debate long ago after I do a search on handhelds.org. >From WiKi http://www.handhelds.org/z/wiki/SoundDriverFrequencyProblem, it says stereo/mono thing has been fixed. (this message was last edited on 21 Mar 2002), and supported sample rate is 16000,22050 and 44100

But in one email on this mailing list (29 Apr 2002) www.handhelds.org/pipermail/familiar/2002-April/007903.html,
it says "Neither the hardware nor the driver supports 8bit sampling. Both =
support 8KHz sampling in stereo. Playing/Recording mono streams is not =
supported by either the driver or the hardware"

Can anyone tell me the CURRENT status of Familiar audio?
Playing: sample rate, sample size(8 or 16), channel (mono or stereo)
Recording: sample rate, sample size(8 or 16), channel (mono or stereo)
