I wrote once before, but I never heard back from you.
Can you please help me fix my iPAQ?

I have an iPAQ 3150 which was running PocketPC 2000.
I bought the Compaq upgrade CD for PPC2002 for the
3100 series iPAQ. When I tried to install the upgrade
I had a communication error, and now all I can get is
the parrot bootloader. I don't see a USB window, so I
think my bootloader is too old for that. Compaq says
they'll restore it for me for about $120. (And they
say this after I already paid them $30 to break it!)
Then it's up to me to try the upgrade again if I'm
brave enough.

I've been doing a lot of web surfing at
brighthand.com, handhelds.org, and
pocketpcpassion.com, but I haven't yet figured out how
to fix my iPAQ. I have the Compaq USB and serial
cables, and I have ordered a compact flash sleeve.

When I connect the iPAQ to the serial port and start
Hyperterminal, then boot the iPAQ in parrot mode, I
get this:
******************************************************
InitDebugSerial using SERIAL PORT 3
******************************************************
Main=8C08A7F4
pTOC=FFFFFFFF
Init SCInitSerial

I want to try to get this brick running again, and I
want to install PPC2002, and Compaq is not helping at
all, so these are some options I see:

OPTION 1:
Connect a good iPAQ with CF card and sleeve to the
serial cable. Run Hyperterminal and instruct the iPAQ
to "r2c" (ROM to CompactFlash) to save the good image
to the CF card. Then put my iPAQ in the same
configuration and instruct it to "c2r" (CompactFlash
to ROM). Then I could try the upgrade again.
Unfortunately I do not have a good iPAQ 3100 series,
nor do I know anyone who does.

OPTION 2:
Somehow install Linux on the iPAQ, then restore
PPC2000, then install PPC2002. Handhelds.org has
quite a bit of information about how to install Linux
if the iPAQ is working normally, but all I have
working is the bootloader. I can't figure out how to
install Linux. Perhaps bootblaster or bootldr figure
into the equation.

OPTION 3:
Somehow use the existing bootloader to flash the ROM,
perhaps using the ROM image available at compaq.com
support. I can't figure out how to do this.

OPTION 4:
What's your suggestion?

Any help or suggestions you have will be greatly
appreciated. If you don't know what to do, could you
forward my message to someone who might? Please help!
