So far, it seems as if VAME (http://www.embedded.oti.com) is the (only) way
to go. Sun hasn't released PersonalJava, yet; Transvirtual doesn't appear
to have the resources to reply to inquiries (much less address multiple
platforms); and Insignia and NISCOM are completely confused about how to
deal with developers.

VAME works, is multi-platform, and has a very active and very public
community presence, including a newsgroup (and the VAME development team
participates on it). They just don't have much mindshare, yet.
