Set up a handhelds.org sourceforge project for it?

Until I really got my head together on this, I agreed with your viewpoint.

When I saw Jim's message earlier about the size of Tiny-X with Keith
Packard's cool stuff linked in, my only objection was silenced. 700k +
whatever is needed to emulate Nano-X on the more capable devices doesn't
seem expensive as a portability strategy - and there's still the possibility
of addressing both targets at some library layer.

In particular, the potential uses for alpha transparency and antialiased
fonts are far too many to reject.

Proven code is surely the biggy. Oh, and the fact that the people who
designed huge chunks of it are on the project? :)
