All,
I just bought myself a 3970, and feeling a little brave, decided to try
to install linux (well, at least the bootloaders) However I have run
into a small snag. Two actually.
1. Lack of serial connection. I set my connection to 19200 in
Activesync on the ipaq, and set the port speed to the same on the PC,
but Activesync insists the com port is unavailable. I'm running XP for
this part of the install, so is there anything I need to be aware of, or
is it just all going horribly wrong?
2. Having setled on USB for the moment, I copied the bootblaster (1.18)
and bootloader(2.19.8) files across to the ipaq, and ran bootblaster.
saving the bootloader sector worked fine, but in the howto it says to
choose 'Save Windows gz' but that's not visible on any menu.
Then taking the bit between my teeth I decided to install the bootloader
anyway, and the screen went all funny (horiz and vertical patterns) for
a while and then nothing (left it for at least 2 mins) .... doing a
soft reset brought back pocketpc2002 but even when I hold down the
joypad during a soft reset, nothing happens. Am I just using the wrong
image? do I need to do something extra special to get the bootloader to
work on a 3970? SHould I give it up and keep using pocketPC? (please
GOD say no to the last one)
All help greatly appreciated (I'll even accept a small amount of
ridicule for the silly things I've done)
Cheers
Alister
