[iPAQ] musings about ipaq sleeves

The recent postings about the various sleeves showing up from different
manufacturers got me musing about how I use sleeves w/ my ipaq. Like
many of you (I suspect) I have one sleeve that I leave on my ipaq most of
the time: the original single PCMCIA sleeve. I've also got little bag of
'goodies' that includes my keyboard, various PC-cards, modem and network
cables, CF cards, etc. that travels in my briefcase, mostly.

Why is it that I leave a sleeve on my ipaq most of the time? I don't
keep something in the slot all the time (mostly use a wireless card
at work and home for connectivity, but I pull it to save power) Perhaps
for the extra battery, but mostly, the real reason is that the sleeve is
so dang awkward when its _off_ the ipaq. It's mostly empty space, with
a couple sharp corners that dig into things. And even a gadget freak like
me can't easily carry more than one, even if I'd like to: they don't nest
well, for example.

What I would love to see is an alternative method of connecting the
sleeve to the ipaq: either something clever, like folding sides that
collapse when off the PDA, or a rails/slides system on the back of the
ipaq itself - that could be made 'backwards compatible'. Hmm, perhaps
I need to break out the dremel ;-)

Just wanted to get that off my chest, as it were.
