I wrote a couple of days ago. I am looking to finish
my ipaq 3765's setup. I want to install/format my
single CF sleeve, and I think I know how to do that
with mkfs -t vfat but I need the modules that I was
instructed to get. I need to get the ipaq talking to
the desktop. I carefully followed the PPP instructions
several times. I tried Win2K instructions but I have
Win98se, and the regular Windows instructions weren't
detailed for me. I think I need a null modem cable
too.
After several tries in Linux, and some things randomly
beginning to work without me changing anything (I just
tried again and it was better...is this normal?) ... I
used the command:
/usr/sbin/pppd /dev/ttyS0 115200
192.168.0.1:192.168.0.2 nodetach noauth debug
nocrtscts lock user ppp connect "/usr/sbin/chat -v -t3
ogin--ogin: ppp"
This was in my Linux desktop. I want to take the debug
out and add the & ... but the command works, sort of.
The ipaq and the computer can ping each other.
Miraculously, there is 0% packet loss. I tried it last
night and got 50% packet loss from both sides
consistently. Maybe they just needed to think through
their issues.
Now my problem is the ipaq isn't seeing the desktop's
outside connection for some reason. I tried ipkg
update and it is giving me connect: Connection timed
out Retrying. ipkg_download: ERROR: Cammand failed
with return value 1: 'wget --passive-ftp -nd -P
/tmp/ipkg-fxnRT7

I am close, right? I have followed all of the setup
instructions in the howto at least three times. I have
gone back and rechecked the settings for both.
here they are ...
IPAQ:
/etc/hosts (removed host names because I think host
ipaq conflicts with conn name ipaq...instead I just
type addresses)

screen is tiny and things wrap)

the command /usr/sbin/pppd call ipaq does not work,
but the one listed first here, the one I used, gives
me ping. What is wrong in my setup? Have I not changed
something that I would know to change if I was more
knowledgable with Linux??
