Compaq will not restore windows CE for you. That's why you have to make
a backup first. and that's why all the poor fellows who lost their
backups are in such a mess.
Compaq Research Labs (thouse who brought you Linux on the iPaq) will
restore a bootloader if you brick your iPaq with a broken version of the
bootloader (but the bootloader has been rock stable since tha last year,
at last concerning brickage of iPaqs)
If you are concerned about getting WinCE back, you can try dualbooting
with Linux/WinCE.
