Can you give some examples?. Alot of packages such as rxvt and matchbox
provide non-xft alternatives. Xkbd supports both though I'll be
splitting this out soon into 2 seperate packages.

The distribution can however provide a script or package to download
and install them. This is what familiar and debian do.
